Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox said Monday he was involved in a car accident Sunday night that left him with “a few bumps and bruises.”

“Yesterday evening, I was involved in a car accident and feel fortunate to have only sustained a few bumps and bruises,” Maddox tweeted Monday night.

The Tuscaloosa mayor thanked first responders and the DCH Health System, adding that he would be returning to work Tuesday.

“Except for some soreness, I’m ready to get back to work tomorrow,” the mayor tweeted.

It was immediately unclear whether other vehicles were involved in the accident and whether the wreck involved Maddox’s personal or city vehicle.
